Sicily holidays by train and ferry

Dip your toe into island life. Heading along one of Italy's most scenic train lines, our trips to Sicily feature journeys that are as spectacular as the destination. Prepare for Jurassic landscapes, hazy pink sunsets, and enough Roman architecture to keep you exploring for weeks.

By the beach

Zurich, Rome, Messina, Cefalù, Turin, Rome and Naples.

One for the beach bums and overnight adventurers: travel by sleeper from mainland Italy to Sicily. After an evening departure from Rome, you'll drift through the night and wake up in the coastal city of Cefalù before heading to the shores of Messina and back via the lively city of Naples.

Sicilian hilltop towns

Geneva, Milan, Naples, Messina, Catania, Enna, Taormina, Reggio Calabria, Florence and Ulm.

After a scenic journey through Switzerland and Italy to Sicily, you’ll spend time in the ancient port city of Catania, before heading inland to Sicily’s highest commune, Enna then onto the town of Taormina, on a craggy promontory overlooking the Ionian sea, with the imposing silhouette of Mount Etna.

Roman ruins of Italy & Sicily

Zurich, Rome, Naples, Reggio Calabria, Catania, Syracuse, Palermo, Messina, Milan, Zurich and Paris with sleeper train.

After your journey to Rome and Naples, you’ll make your way down Italy’s boot before crossing the Messina Strait to Sicily. With stays in Catania, Syracuse, Palermo and Messina, you’ll uncover Sicily’s most captivating Roman cities, brimming with the ruins of amphitheatres, churches and archaeological sites, before travelling back on the Internotte sleeper train.

Here’s the minimum time you’ll need for a relaxed round trip starting from London. We do other departure stations, too!
